North Woods Fishing Report: Late September

North Woods Fishing Report: Late September

James Stewart September 17, 2021

When the summer seasons begins to shake off and we move further into the grip of fall, tactics and techniques need to change up to match the season.  This weeks fishing report comes from a mash up of clues from guides Tim Ives and Al Frost.  Water temps are currently hanging around the upper 60's, which is a great place for active fish.  Temps of 67 & 68 degrees have been recorded and are helping to narrow down our targets.  The guides agree that fishing the cane and outside weed edge have been producing fish with slow tactics and color choice is up for grabs.  Depths of 5-12 feet seem to deliver though shallower is not off the table.  These fish are moving shallow to get their last warmth of summer.

Though the moves and tactics are identical, these guides have different preferences for bait choice to net your fall fatty.  Tim leans towards tubes, topwater, and bucktails; highly recommending Spanky Baits 89 Firebomb and Fat Bastard

For AL, success came on slow moving blades, bucktails, or medium sized cranks.  Top recommendations are Crane 206, Violent Strike Extractors, and Mepps Giant Killers.

As we move further into fall, the tactics and tips will change, so keep coming back for more current information from the guys on the water.  Fishing reports update every 2 weeks to keep the information coming and keep it fresh!  Tight Lines!
