We hope you're enjoying a fantastic summer and finding time to hit the water for some fishing. The Minocqua area has been a hotspot this season, with anglers reeling in a variety of species. Panfish, Crappies, Perch, Bass, and Walleye are biting well, and Muskies are no exception. Here's your guide to making the most of your fishing trips, complete with tips and recommended baits to boost your success.
Fishing Hotspots: Where to Find the Fish
Most fish species, including Muskies, are positioning themselves near weed edges and breaklines. During cold front conditions, fish tend to move deeper into the weeds. However, in stable weather or high-pressure systems, you'll find them closer to the edges.
Pro Tip: Cover All Angles
To maximize your catch, set up just outside the breakline or weed edge and cast into the weeds. This approach allows you to cover the top of the weeds, the edge, and the area just beyond it. Many species roam these edges, so thoroughly working this zone gives you the best chance for success.
Best Baits for Panfish, Crappies, Perch, Bass, and Walleye
For Panfish, Crappies, Perch, Bass, and Walleye, a jig paired with a Leech or Nightcrawler is a reliable choice. Another standout option is a 1/8oz jig tipped with a Berkley PowerBait Flatnose Minnow, a soft plastic that has been performing exceptionally well. Crankbaits and spinners are also effective, but the jig and Flatnose Minnow combo has been particularly outstanding this season.
