Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Early December

Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Early December

James Stewart December 08, 2023

From all of us at The Musky Shop, we hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. With November in the rear-view mirror and early ice of December there is not a great deal to report at this current time. We are kind of in that in-between stage as the big lakes just froze up 4 days ago. The smaller lakes have been frozen for a couple of weeks however we are in a bit of a warming trend for the next few days thus the ice is suspect in some places. Most small to medium-sized lakes have approximately 1"-4" of ice. So please take all necessary precautions when venturing out.

Early Ice Crappies has been good. Fishermen going out have been using Kalin Crappie Scrubs and ice jigs plain or tipped with a minnow head or Wax Worm. And we are finding them in shallow weeds or wood in the 5'-8' range. The Walleye bite has been pretty good too. Walleye suckers and XL fats have been working pretty well. Walleye's have been in the 8'-12' weeds, and wood.

Northern Pike this early ice period has been good as well. TipUps and Walleye Suckers in 5'-12' weeds is a good bet to find some early ice pike. I'm sorry we don't have a lot to report, we have about one inch of snow on the ice currently so ice conditions aren't great. Again, please be careful if you decide to head out. We have a good supply of fresh live bait as well as quite a bit of ice fishing gear. Please feel free to stop by the Musky Shop if you need any supplies or fishing information as we would be glad to meet your needs the best that we can. Please let us know if we can be of service to you as it would be our pleasure.

Good Fishing and God Bless, Jim Stewart
